Bilateral  Maxillary  Nerve  Block  for  Cleft  Palate  Surgery  -   A New Analgesic Technique.                                                                                                    -  Dr.A. Abstract: Cleft palate surgery presents numerous challenges to the anaesthetist. In the postoperative period, two seemingly disparate goals have to be met: one, complete awakening with return of protective airway reflexes; two, a comfortable and pain-free child.

An alternate mode of analgesia, equivalent to narcotics in efficacy but without the attendant drowsiness is highly desirable. In this prospective study of 56 consecutive cases, we have evaluated the efficacy of bilateral maxillary nerve block as the sole analgesic in palatoplasty. The minimal use of sedatives and respiratory depressants resulted in significant postoperative advantages.
