Sri Ramachandra Cleft and Craniofacial Center

SRMC & RI
is one of the very few centers in India that provides multidisciplinary treatment of cleft lip, palate and Craniofacial Anomalies in India.  In October 1997, Sri Ramachandra Cleft & Craniofacial Center was started with a dedicated team to provide multidisciplinary treatment.

Further in 2000, SRMC&RI have established a liaison with The Smile Train, an American Charitable Organization for funding surgical treatment. With this liaison, approximately 700 to 800 children get operated each year free of cost.  The liaison will also help us improve the quality of treatment by providing financial and technical assistance.

Fellowship

Given the size and quality, and the prospects for further growth of the Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial Center at SRMC&RI, I believe that we are ready to take up training of post-graduates in Cleft lip, palate and Craniofacial Surgery.  Therefore 6-12 months fellowship in Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial Surgery was established.  Thie fellowship is supported by the Smile train and Johnson & Johnson at present. We will also apply for the accredited by the National Board.  We are exploring the possibilities for co-sponsorship for this Fellowship by major companies like Stryker Pacific, Martin, etc.

Qualification of Fellow

Fellow should have M Ch or DNB in plastic surgery or equivalent two years experience in the plastic surgery in the teaching institute, or MDS in maxillofacial surgery.

Fellow should have some exposure to cleft lip and palate management and should have participated in at least few surgeries.

Fellow should have special interest in this speciality with interest to pursue his carrier  in this field.

Duty of Fellow

Duty hours will be from
8am to 5pm and six days a week. His/her duties will comprise clinical and surgical work, clinical research and administration work related to these patients.  He/She is also responsible for ward calls after working hours.  We prefer them to stay in the campus.

He/she will be entitled for the public holidays and casual leave.
He/she has to take one research project and to complete during that period.
He/She will also help in conducting free camp and program pertaining to public education for Cleft lip and palate.

Syllabus

Fellow will get exposure to holistic multidisciplinary management of Cleft Lip, palate and craniofacial surgery.

Fellow will perform at least 5 independent surgeries and will be assisted in 10 surgeries and and he will  assist senior surgeons in approximately 200 surgeries during the period of three months.
Fellow will form part of the existing multidisciplinary team.

Condition of Fellowship

Fellowship will be paid and sponsored by The Smile Train and  Johnson & Johnson; the payment will be decided by mutual agreement depending on the experience of the fellow.

Fellowship will be for the duration of six months. Fellowship will be extended for a further period of three months provided interest and commitment of the fellow is satisfactory.

Fellowship can be terminated if the commitment, and interest of the fellow are not satisfactory.

Fellow has to follow the treatment protocol decided by the In-charge of Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial Team.

Fellow has to submit the summary report of his training and research work at the end of the training. 

All the research work will be property of the Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research institute, Porur.
